Abstract

The study determined the effect of Value Orientation Counselling in Reducing Moral Decadence among Secondary School Students in Zaria Metropolis, Kaduna State, Nigeria. Three objectives served as its guiding principles, and three related null hypotheses were each examined at the significance level of 0.05. Pre-test and post-test groups were used in the study's quasi-experimental design. 200 JSSII and SSII students from GSS Jamaa, Samaru served as the study's subjects. The Assessment of Secondary School Students Morality Scale (ASSSMS), a 25-item scale with values ranging from SA, A, D, and SD, served as the instrument for gathering data. All JSSII and SSII students were given the assessment tool by the researchers, and 100 students from each arm who received scores below 50 were deemed to have low moral character and were chosen for the study. Pre-test, treatment, and post-test phases made up the three stages of the data collection process. The therapy phase lasted six weeks, and on Tuesdays and Thursdays, the researchers interacted with the participants for two hours. The independent t-test statistics were used to assess the hypothesis at the 0.05 level of significance. In the Samaru Metropolis, it was discovered that value orientation counseling significantly reduced moral decadence among secondary students. Based on these results, it was concluded that secondary school students had low moral standards, with the majority of parents having neglected their duty to instill good moral principles in their kids.Pre-test, treatment, and post-test phases made up the three stages of the data collection process.
