ODUKOYA jpc@aprocon.org.ng Faithful A. ONDULOH adedayo.odukoya@covenantuniversity.edu.ng <p>The objective of this study is to empirically measure the attitude of undergraduate students toward COVID-19 in preparation for Counselling. Two hundred and sixty-three (263) undergraduate students in a Nigerian Private University participated in the study. The instrument used was Attitude towards Corona Virus Questionnaire. The content validity was established by a Test and Measurement expert. The research questions are: What percentage of the respondents was aware of COVID-19? What percentage of the respondents believe that COVID-19 kills? What percentage of the respondents witnessed COVID-19 death? What percentage of the respondents believed in the COVID-19 medical intervention protocols? What percentage of the respondents obeyed the COVID-19 protocol? What percentage exercised faith in their religion to fight the COVID-19 pandemic? What percentage of the respondents was infected with COVID19? The data was analysed with basic descriptive statistics. The result shows that 90.9% (n=239; N=263) of the respondents were aware of COVID-19; Though 93.2% (n=245) believed that COVID-19 kills, only 26.2% [n=69] directly witnessed COVID-19 death. Though 66.2% (n=174) of the respondents reported they believed in the COVID-19 protocols, only 20.5% (n=54) reported that they consistently kept the protocol, while 40.7% (n=107) obeyed sometimes. It is interesting to note that 92% (n=242) reported that they used a combination of faith in their religious beliefs and adherence with the COVID-19 protocols to fight the pandemic, while 8% (n=22) neither applied faith nor obeyed the COVID-19 protocol. On the question of infection, 11.8% (n=31) reported they were infected with COVID-19. The findings revealed a number of interesting dimensions that informed the recommendations.</p> 2023-12-05T00:00:00+00:00 Copyright (c) 2023 https://jpc.aprocon.org.ng/index.php/jpc/article/view/65 SELF-ESTEEM AS CORRELATE OF SHYNESS AMONG PRE-SERVICE TEACHERS OF OYO STATE COLLEGE OF EDUCATION, LANLATE 2023-11-26T19:48:29+00:00 Abidemi Olawale OLABIYI olabiyiabidemi2013@gmail.com M. To direct its investigation, the study developed three research questions and used a cross-sectional survey approach. A multi-stage sample technique was deployed to choose a total of 1,165 adult participants, including males/females, who were 18 years of age or older from two rural and two urban local government regions. A self-made questionnaire and comprehensive interview questions were deployed to obtain the data. These study tools were validated by two more specialists in Guidance and Counseling Department at Delta State University, Abraka, plus the researcher's supervisors. These tests were given to 20 youngsters who weren't in the study's sample to establish reliability, and the results showed a Cronbach Alpha coefficient of 0.75. In the carefully selected LGAs, the researchers and six trained research assistants collected data for the investigation. Descriptive statistics, such as percentages, and thematic approaches were used in the data analysis. According to the investigation's results, young people in the Delta Central Senatorial District frequently assault women, with variances depending on their age, marital status, degree of education, religion, and gender. Male dominance, gender disparity, the belief that men are superior, the belief that women are the weaker gender, and female economic dependency on men are only a few of the variables that have been linked to aggression towards women. The investigation came to the conclusion that vehemence towards women might result in a numeral of unfavourable consequences, such as homicide, suicide, depression, STDs, HIV/AIDS, drug misuse, harm to the body, high mortality rates, high blood pressure, and even unexpected death. The investigation suggests that in light of these findings, both governmental and non-governmental groups hold workshops/seminars in rural and urban regions and broaden their awareness-raising initiatives to include rural people.</p> 2023-12-05T00:00:00+00:00 Copyright (c) 2023 https://jpc.aprocon.org.ng/index.php/jpc/article/view/75 PERSONALITY CHARACTERISTICS AS PREDICTORS OF COUNSELLING COMPETENCIES OF PROSPECTIVE COUNSELLORS IN PUBLIC UNIVERSITIES IN EDO AND DELTA STATES 2023-11-26T21:24:06+00:00 Omorionmwen OMOGBAI edithbarry27@yahoo.com Azuka Ngozi G.
